2018 Recap

Skinternal Medicine 2018: What You Hopefully Didn’t Miss

Thank you to our generous Exhibitors who helped make Skinternal Medicine 2018 possible!

Thank you to our dedicated Faculty presenters for sharing your time and expertise!

And, very importantly, THANK YOU to our over 200 Attendees for joining us to learn more dermatology and enhance your skin disease knowledge! You are improving the care of many lives! Your questions during the interactive Q&A sessions were thought-provoking and beneficial for everyone. It was inspiring meeting and interacting with so many of you throughout the day – your dedication is impressive!

Attendees began arriving at 7am and enjoyed a delicious breakfast from The Orange Clover. Thank you to Rachel Hall and her team for your hard work – guests RAVED about the food!
Dr. Scott Kasteler kicked off the day’s lectures with his high-yield psoriasis talk.  Guests learned more about the disease process and current treatment options.  Psoriasis has recently been emphasized as a systemic disease, and important considerations for improving overall patient care were discussed.
The interactive Question and Answer sessions were a huge hit! Attendees asked the panel questions live or anonymously on note cards that were collected after each lecture. This lead to great discussions and sharing of tips and pearls.  We all took away practical pearls to implement into daily clinical practice.

During the breaks, guests enjoyed visiting with colleagues, talking with exhibitors, and snacks courtesy of the Orange Clover.

Attendees took photos with colleagues and encouraged to share their experience on comment boards and/or social media with #skinternalmedicine.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with us! It helps us make each year’s Skinternal Medicine Conference even better and more high yield for attendees.

Please see “What Your Colleagues are Saying” to read comments from the 2018 Conference.

Guests found the Courtesy Charging Stations very helpful. No one ever wants to lose charge.
Dr. Molly Moye, Board-Certified Mohs Surgeon, discussed diagnosing and treating skin cancers of all types. She talked about biopsy techniques, site documentation, surgical treatments, Mohs surgery, and much more.  She was a hit and we are looking forward to learning more from her in 2019!

Dr. Tandy Repass, Mayo Clinic trained Board-Certified Dermatologist, discussed common skin infections, including tinea, herpes, shingles, and more. She had several pearls on prevention and treatment that guests found very helpful for clinical practice.  Common misconceptions of skin infections, including HPV, were discussed during the lecture. The updates and pearls on diagnosing and treating these very commonly seen skin infections was immensely helpful.

Attendees enjoyed an exciting giveaway game to win an exceptional dermatology medication textbook.  Prior to Dr. Stephen Wolverton’s topical steroid lecture, guests were challenged to name the tune of a popular medical television show. The winner won the latest edition of Comprehensive Dermatologic Drug Therapy 4th Ed. – signed by the author (Dr. Wolverton) on the spot.  This textbook is a necessity for dermatologic drug prescribing and a staple in every dermatologist’s office.

Guests raved about the lectures, venue, food, music, and entertainment. The lighting in the venue did, unfortunately, make some of the slide presentations difficult to see. We arranged for them to be viewed online by attendees following the conference. And, this will NOT be an issue going forward. We tried to think of and anticipate all possible issues that could arise for the day, but, unfortunately weren’t able to see this one coming. We did everything we could to correct it for guests, and it will not be an issue in the years to come!

Thank you to Brent Rogers and TC and crew of Sounds Unlimited Productions! Your help with the Audio-Visual details and help making this event happen was GREATLY appreciated! Thank you for the wonderful job setting up the presentations. Guests really enjoyed the music and discussion slides between presentations. We are looking forward to working with you all again next year!

Dr. Joseph Fowler talks about the wonderful world of dermatitis. He is the dermatitis guru – he literally wrote the book on contact dermatitis (Fisher’s Contact Dermatitis, 7th Edition) and is a leader in the field of patch testing and allergic contact dermatitis – he has served as President of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group and lectures both nationally and internationally.  Dr. Fowler discussed the differences between various types of dermatitis and treatment options, including newly available treatments for atopic dermatitis. We look forward to hearing more from him in 2019!
Dr. Michael Sheehan, Board-Certified Dermatologist and current Vice-President of  the American Contact Dermatitis Society, gave an outstanding lecture on common rashes of the lower leg. He received rave reviews, discussing the differences between stasis dermatitis and cellulitis, as well as many other common conundrums of the lower extremity.
Dr. Megan Landis and Dr. Joe Fowler catch up during one of the breaks.
